Direction

Direction: “a course along which someone or something moves”. If we face against the direction of the wind, for example, we brace ourselves against the flow, if we turn in the direction of the wind, the wind assists us in our journey.

In energy medicine, direction (Wood element) is one of the key factors affecting the balancing of the body. Depending on the condition, in treatment, we can “support” the direction of the flow of Qi, “accumulate” the volume of Qi or “treat” against the flow of the Qi.

Location

“a particular place or position”. Location can refer to the position of the problem on the body. Where is the pain? Where is the focus? It can also refer to the places where you live and work, the environment of those places.

”In healing, it is important to determine the locations (Earth element) in the body where the person is holding the energy so that the Qi can be unblocked, nourished, or regulated. The location is a guide, a starting point. The aim is to get the Qi to start at this point, circulate through the network, then return to this/ or associated point, a circular process. ”

Allocation

“the action or process of sharing something. For example, how do we allocate time between competing demands of work, family, leisure, personal health care etc”.

Haisong Comments

”In natural healing, a balance between yin and yang, chi and blood, mind and body, physical and emotional, is achieved through allocation (Water element).”

Within/Without

”Within/Without, …. introspection/extrospection. Where is the mind focused? Mindfulness is the direct and intense experience of the here and now, being present, attentive, focused, and ready for action. When you’re in a mindful state, you’re aware — simultaneously — of the situation, you are in (without) and your inner experience of it (within). ”

“ In healing, we aim to balance within and without (Metal element), for example, the mind leading the blood and the Qi is without, the body leading the mind is within. Within means, the materials are melting into the formless matter and you are in your regular mind-setting; without means, the formless mind is including / leading over the materials and you are aware of other ways of doing things, that is how we achieve the balance between emotional, physical and the spiritual.

Personal Space

”The distance surrounding a person forms a space. The space within intimate distance and personal distance is called personal space (“my territory”). The space within social distance and out of personal distance is called social space, the space of people we recognise, friends. The space beyond that is called public space.”

“In Chinese Medicine, we have levels within the body. The top level is the skin, below that is the blood vessels followed by the soft tissues, ligaments and bone. In healing we aim to get these layers to interact with each other, thus creating space within the body.”
